Why do women “Suffer for the benefit of others”?

January 5, 2012: Today's post comes from a conversation I had with my sister. Why do we do this to ourselves? We take the crap that comes from a situation to save others from the pain of taking it on themselves.

We suffer in silence when we know that our child is making a decision that could be detrimental to them, but we know that they HAVE to go through it to learn on their own. We sit by and let other people's needs be met while our needs take the back-seat (sometimes even the trunk).

Why do we think that other people and their feelings are more important than ours? We are all created equally and have no reason to put ourselves in a place of lesser value. What benefit do we get from doing this?

I have to guess that as much as we don't want to admit it, we get to play the victim. We get to hold onto this moment and remind people of what we sacrificed at this time in our past. HOW RIDICULOUS does this sound? But, think about it for a moment and think back to the last time you were pushed to the limit. What did you do? What did you say? How did you act?

Ladies, we have to stop this insanity!!! We need to get over ourselves, and let people know that we think we are just as important as they are. When we give ourselves permission to be the best we can be, amazingly enough, it gives other people to do the same. When we hold back, we are not honoring our spirit, but stifling it.

Just my point of view, till next time.
